Villars Is One of the Most Attractive Ski Resorts in Switzerland

Posted on 28 January 2012

Villars is not only one of the most attractive ski resorts in the Alps, but it’s also one of the most accessible just 90 minutes’ drive from Geneva airport. Thus it is perfect for a long weekend.

The resort is 1200m above sea level, and the area incorporates two smaller areas of Villars/Bretaye and Gryon. The area has 125 km of ski slopes serviced by 44 lifts — a lift system that has benefited from considerable investment during the last few years –and there is also a glacier.

Off piste skiing is excellent, and 7% of the area is covered with snow cannons. Skiers can choose between altitudes of 1300m and 3000m. There are also three snow parks, 44 km of cross-country skiing trails, a snow kindergarten, sledging runs and lots of walking routes.

Those in need of relief after a hard day skiing can visit the thermal baths and wellness centres in Lavey, while those with a more robust constitution will enjoy the lively apres ski scene. The resort is a very family-oriented as during the winter all children under the age of nine ski for free.

It’s also a great year-round resort as it has tennis courts, a swimming pool and a golf course with beautiful views of Mont Blanc, and it’s a perfect choice for a second home or rental property. Of course there is also plenty of hiking and mountain biking with over 300km of foot paths and 150km of mountain bike routes.
