Hot tubs and flat screens – the key to a luxury chalet in the Alps?

Posted on 08 March 2013

Pretty views, en-suite bathrooms, underground parking and close to a ski lift – all things you should expect as standard with a chalet in the Alps, but have you thought about those things that make certain ski properties extra special?

If you’re in the market for a chalet that’s the crème de la crème of Alpine real estate, your wish list will no doubt include facilities for a spot of relaxation and pampering, as well as cutting edge audio-visual stimulation.

These days, no luxury chalet in the Alps is complete without its own spa and wellness area, which at the very least includes sauna and steam rooms, perhaps a massage room and Turkish bath, and most definitely an outdoor hot tub on the terrace – where you can sip champagne and take in the jaw-dropping mountain vistas after a hard day on the slopes. At a push, you could have an indoor pool…

Meanwhile, for those nights when you prefer to give the après-ski scene a miss, a fully-equipped cinema room is a welcome alternative. Satellite TV and DVD players are a given – the giant high spec plasma screen, surround sound and comfy sofas to curl up on are what make the difference. Of course, there should be LCD screens and built-in sound systems in all bedrooms – which number at least six. The AV offering should be rounded off with a central music centre connected to built-in speakers around the chalet, as well as Xbox 360, Playstation and Nintendo Wii consoles on hand for kids and adults alike.

If you’re spending a king’s ransom on a ski home, make sure you get your money’s worth! has a selection of luxury chalets for sale in the French Alps, including properties in Méribel and Val d’Isère.
