Festival fever – why music events give an exciting edge to a ski home

For a ski property that offers a bit more than the usual après-ski, why not choose one in a resort that hosts an annual festival – if you’re not at the event yourself, you’ll find it easy to rent out your property.

Tignes, in the Espace Killy ski area, hosts one of the liveliest festivals – the Brits, this season from 30th March to 5th April 2014. It’s a week-long event that draws thousands of ski and snowboard fanatics of all levels for seven days of snow, music and partying. The Brits hosts the annual British Snowboard and Freeski Championships, as well as freestyle demonstrations from the best UK boarders and skiers.

Meanwhile, Méribel brings the cool party atmosphere of the Balearics to the Alps once a year when it hosts the Ibiza Rocks festival, this year from 14th to 21st December. The event shows off live gigs from breakthrough bands, DJ sets from pioneers of house and bass music and après hosted by the UK and Ibiza’s biggest clubbing brands.

Later in the season, Rock the Pistes is a five-day music festival that takes place from 26th to 30th March 2014 in resorts throughout the entire Portes du Soleil ski area, which includes Les Gets and Chatel. Promising a selection of French and international artists, the concerts are free and with four gigs a day across two stages there will be plenty to see. Acts confirmed for the 2014 festival so far include Mad Professor (featuring Lee Scratch Perry and Horace Andy), French metal troupe Mass Hysteria and soul singer Ben l’Oncle Soul.
