The winter season might be over in the Alps but for visitors and homeowners in Tignes and Les Deux Alpes, there is still skiing to be had – on the glaciers above these two popular French resorts that open over the summer!
Les Deux Alps offers the largest and highest glacier skiing area in Europe, on the Girose and Mont de Lans glaciers, which range in altitude from 2,900 and 3,600 metres. Lifts to the skiing area will be open from Saturday 21st June to Saturday 30th August this year. The Les Deux Alpes summer ski area features one of the best summer parks in the Alps with a superpipe, air bag and host of rails, tables and freestyle modules.
In Tignes, summer skiing is on the Grande Motte glacier above the resort. It is reached by the state-of-the-art funicular or by a two-stage quad-chair – both routes start in Tignes Val Claret. The train takes just five minutes to reach the ‘Panoramic’ mountain restaurant and from there you catch a cable-car the top of the glacier at 3,456 metres. Access to the Grande Motte is available to skiers from Saturday 21st June to Sunday 3rd August.
