It’s a big year for the charming resort of Chatel in the French Alps, thanks to the opening in July of a smart new aqua centre and commencement of work on a new lift system that could be ready for this ski season.
Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, Chatel’s off-piste activities just got a whole lot better with the opening of its new aqua centre in the centre of town. It has connected indoor and outdoor heated pools, a separate 25-metre lapping pool, plus contra flow lane, kids area and pool, Jacuzzis, saunas, hammans, solarium, massage and beauty treatment rooms and a gym.
Meanwhile, construction of the new SuperChatel to Linga lift is now underway. According to the town’s mayor, if everything goes well it could be ready for this ski season, but at the latest it will be finished for the 2015/2016 season.
Once operational, the new lift will take skiers from SuperChatel up to Lac du Vonnes, a stop off, then from Lac du Vonnes over to Linga. This removes the need to take a car or bus from the centre of Chatel if you want to start skiing at Linga, and allows you to ski over to the Avoriaz and Morzine side of the Portes du Soleil without having to pass through the Swiss resorts.
Anyone considering a property purchase in Chatel, shouldn’t leave it too long – these new infrastructure upgrades, combined with the resort’s Alpine charm, are expected to drive up prices in the next five years.
