If you’re a snow sports nut, shredding powder just once or twice a season probably isn’t enough slope time. That’s why so many of us return from the mountainside determined to make our holiday last forever, by buying a home we can use as ski base whenever we choose. With so many world-class resorts to choose from in the French Alps, you’re spoilt for choice when deciding where to buy your ski escape. A few iconic resorts spring immediately to mind – Chamonix, Val d’Isère, Meribel, Les Arcs – but delve a little deeper into this vast region and you will discover lesser known resorts of equal quality like Combloux.
Part of the Les Portes du Mont-Blanc ski area – which it shares with le Jaillet, La Giettaz and Cordon – and its 100 kilometres of pistes that snake through pine forests and pass rustic mountain farms, Combloux is a real alpine gem. It’s worth a visit for the breath-taking views of Mont Blanc and the Aravis and Beaufortain mountain ranges alone. But you may as well take advantage of the three snow parks and cross-country skiing tracks while you’re at it. Its supply of slopes doesn’t end there. Head just one kilometre up the road from Combloux village centre and you can discover the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area and its 445 kilometres of slopes, which it shares with Le Jaillet, La Giettaz, Saint-Gervais, Megève, Saint-Nicolas de Véroce, Les Contamines and Cordon.
You won’t be leaving your pad empty for long in the summer months either. Once the snow begins to melt, the streams begin to flow and the flowers begin to bloom, Combloux remains a hive of activity as visitors enjoy a wide range of summer activities: mountain biking, fishing, paragliding, BMX, white-water sports, hiking, rock climbing. This dual seasonality enhances the rental potential of your alpine retreat, giving you the option to make a few quid when you’re not in town.
