Charming Morzine is a delightful ski resort nestled away in the French Alps. It is part of the large skiing area of Portes du Soleil and they are linked by ski lifts and cable cars, Morzine is one the leading ski resorts in France and its popularity grows each year. Morzine is located in a commune in the Haute-Savoie department and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of south-eastern France, close to the Swiss border. This unspoilt area has retained its traditional atmosphere as a market town with delightful panoramic mountain views. Morzine is one of the most northerly ski resorts in the French Alps and is situated at an altitude of 1000m. The ski facilities are modern as are the bars and restaurants and the ski properties are dotted throughout the beautiful landscape blending in nicely in the back ground of the woodland scenery. Also located in this commune is the ski resort of Avoriaz.

The area of Morzine is 44.1 km² (17.0 sq miles) of quality ski area offering 7 (11km) green runs, 23 (38km) blue trails, 26 (45km) red runs and 8 (13km) black trails. There are 81 pistes with 107km of downhill runs and 95km of cross country runs. There are 67 ski lifts that can upload 256,000 skiers/snowboarders per hour. This ski resort is particularly family friendly and its daily life reflects this catering for families throughout both winter and summer.

Winter in Morzine provides as much fun as one can take with an abundance of ski trails and snowboarding areas and with the right ski lift pass you can also enjoy all that the Portes du Soleil skiing area offers. You can ski and snowboard in Avoriaz, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, La Grande Terche, Les Crosets, Les Gets, Montriond, Morgins and Saint Jean d’Aulps. Activities in Morzine include night skiing, snowmobiling, ice hockey and bowling, swimming plus there is a world class ice rink. Christmas and New Year is a winter wonderland of entertainment that everyone young or old can enjoy and it begins around 5th December. Festive markets and decorated stalls are open and expect to see Santa before he visits all the children in the world on Christmas Eve.

Summer in Morzine is delightful as the temperature reaches around 25°C which is an ideal temperature for walking, swimming or relaxing. Nearby activities include paragliding, swimming in Lac Montriond which is a natural beauty spot surrounded by lakes, hiking trails and waterfalls. There is walking, biking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Pop over to Lake Geneva for the day or a long weekend it’s a mere 1 hour drive from Morzine.

Morzine is conveniently located in the French Alps with the closest airport is just an hour and 25 minutes away it’s the Geneva Cointrin International Airport in Switzerland. This makes travelling from the UK and Europe an easy journey and one you can make any time of the year. Currently there is an incredible 32 flights per day from across the UK to Geneva; the average travel time from London to Geneva is a mere 1 hour and 35 minutes. Transfers from Geneva Airport to Morzine are usually by car, a taxi, private transfer or a hire car or shuttle bus.

Shopping in Morzine is a breeze, there is basically every type of shop you could possibly need there, everything from grocery stores to souvenir shops and boutiques. Therefore if you are staying in a ski apartment or ski chalet you can shop to your hearts content and enjoy delicious meals at home. Ski schools are open for all levels from beginners such as young children to experienced skiers who want to improve their ski level.

Après ski in Morzine is mainly centred on its family friendly bars and restaurants. There are local dishes available as well as international cuisine on offer and all cater for families. The atmosphere is very laid back with delightful cafes where you can have lunch or a snack and then head to comfy sofas of the mellow bars or restaurants. This alpine ski resort is relaxed and not as busy as some of the other ski resorts in the French Alps. Although I must add there are a couple of lively bars and nightclubs for those who want to dance the night away.

Staying in a ski resort promotes family time with exciting skiing activities, the whole family can enjoy it together, then its home to a steaming mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows by the fire – perfect!
