Les Gets, Information & Area Guide

Les Gets (1,172 to 2,002 metres)

Les Gets is an extremely popular Alpine resort, in the Haute-Savoie region of South East France, located on the Western edge of the vast ski area of the Portes du Soleil. It offers superb panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif, and a feeling of well-being, peace and freedom. Nestled in the depths of a tranquil green valley and presenting with beautiful views of the many surrounding snow-clad hills is this skiing resort gem, it is typically Savoyard, retaining its mountain village feel, with traditional stone and wood chalets. A bustling and lively centre where lots of family-friendly restaurants, cafes and bars can be found, this really is a great location.

The ski resort of Les Gets is a linked resort within the Portes du Soleil and in total there are 12 linked resorts which combined offers an impressive 266 pistes within reach and 10 snow parks, catering for all different skill levels, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced skier. Lift passes can be purchased for Les Gets and the neighbouring area of Morzine, or for the wider Portes du Soleil.  Les Gets has an area of the mountain for children only, called le Grande Cry. It has two button lifts and many runs, all themed around trappers and Indians and they also hold weekly treasure hunts. Combined, Les Gets and Morzine has around 50 lifts across several distinct ski areas. If that is not enough, you can also purchase separate lift passes for Mont Chéry (at one side of Les Gets). Mont Chéry hosts the majority of black runs, as well as numerous red runs, with just one blue and no green pistes.  It is known as ‘the locals’ mountain’, Les Chavannes being the tourist side.

Les Gets is located only an hour away from Geneva airport and two hours from Lyon. Transfers are swift whether it is by shuttle bus, taxi or private car. These are ideal travelling times if there are younger members of the family with you. Nobody wants to keep hearing “are we there yet”

The resort is as busy during the summer months as the winter months are. It’s double the fun as there are so many other activities available. During the winter you can partake in paragliding, ice skating, sledge dogs and electric snowmobiles the list is endless. During the summer how about golf, hiking, tennis and table tennis, archery, swimming, fishing there are just too many to mention. There are wellness centres to relax and rejuvenate those aching muscles, have a massage or take part in a yoga class. There is a cinema, bowling and even a library of those lazy days you need to take some time out, and you will be spoilt for choice.

You can try first hand the numerous cultural events that the resort has to offer throughout the year. In the summer, street entertainment is popular and can include an abundance of children’s activities, street performers and even a traditional fair, why not enjoy a ride on the carousel? And it is no surprise than in a village so brimming with character that live music can be enjoyed from the centre stage during the busiest months, In the winter there is a traditional open-air ice rink in Les Gets, so you can take a break from skiing and show off your ice skating skills instead, or maybe just enjoy watching everyone else while you take a much-deserved break from the action and enjoy a hot chocolate or steaming cappuccino instead. Take advantage of having your little ones looked after at the childcare centre, it gives you the freedom to enjoy your day’s skiing.

With an array of lovely restaurants where you can sample delicious dishes suitable for everyone’s tastes, as well as enjoying the ever-popular traditional Savoy dishes, which can be found sprawling throughout this charming village. Try the well-established bars and cafes, pubs and nightclubs where you can catch up with friends and dance the night away. There are shops galore and great supermarkets, butchers, bakers, chocolate and cake shops for those nights where you prefer to eat in and relax with a lovely glass of bubbly by the roaring fire.
