Avoriaz is a modern French mountain village in the wonderful Alps, located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil which is one of the largest ski areas in the world comprising of twelve resorts between France and Switzerland. Avoriaz benefits from the main chair lift of the region and the resort is connected to the town of Chatel in one direction and Chambery in the other; all of these resorts are connected by gondolas. There is in excess of 650km varied runs to suit everyone’s skiing abilities and with access to high altitude skiing you will be blown away by one of the prettiest panoramic views there is in the Alps. The longest run is 6000m and there are a total of 51 runs in Avoriaz and an impressive 283 in Portes du Soleil. You have the option to take it easy or push yourself to the limits; you will find a wide choice of routes on varied terrain, skiing down into wide, open valleys on pistes running through the trees. You can ski through picturesque countryside, with open panoramic views of the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches.

Avoriaz ski area is ideal for everyone from families to couples and groups of friends it appeals to all ages and skiing levels, the altitude guarantees snow cover from December through to April, with an average of 8 meters of snow every winter. Embrace this ski adventure as it enables you to cross the border and have the freedom of skiing across two countries. If you love cross-country skiing you are in for a treat as Avoriaz has around 38km of ski trails which are spread over 8 loops which pass through pretty pine forests to give exceptional views of the surrounding peaks. The cross-country tracks are well signed and across Portes du Soleil there are over 250km of excellent ski trails.

The closest airport to Avoriaz is Geneva International and the transfer time is only 90 minutes. You can also fly into Chambery and it will take 2 hours to reach Avoriaz from here. There are excellent shuttle buses, private car hire or taxis you can use to transfer you to Avoriaz.

It’s not just skiing Avoriaz has on offer there are numerous other activities and amenities to keep you occupied here are just a few of them, hiking, accompanied mountain hiking, a children’s village, Nordic walking, there is mountain biking, crazy golf, trampolines, dog hiking, archery, multi-sports courts, beach volley, table tennis, squash, tennis, climbing, paragliding, golf, horse riding and a cinema for those evenings you just feel like chilling whilst watching a movie. All around the area, there are simply stunning walks and you can visit the beautiful waterfalls and lakes and marvel at the breathtaking views. After a full day on the slopes who doesn’t want to unwind at the Spa and wellness centre? Enjoy a message or head outdoors to the terrace and experience the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam cabin.

Aquariaz is a must for all the family it is an aquatic paradise in the mountains a river with a gentle current, a water playhouse, a paddling pool, a large pool with climbing walls, massage benches and swim in the open-air spa heated to 34C. This type of Water Park is unique in the mountains and features natural tropical vegetation in lush surroundings.

Après ski is varied and there is something for everyone, the mountain restaurants here are of exceptional quality and offer Swiss and Savoyard dishes and is renowned for its gastronomy. There is an array of traditional French and Swiss food plus Italian specialities and European favourites, Asian inspired dishes as well as vegetarian are all popular. After dining out or at home, the popular BBQ is favoured especially by families; head out to one of the many bars or cafes. There is a varied mix of family friendly bars which are casual and cosy to livelier which serves fabulous cocktails, have live music and bar games. There are nightclubs and discos dotted throughout the resort and these are more suited to couples and groups of friends who want to end their day throwing some shapes on the dance floor and why not?
