Best places to buy a ski property: Verbier

You might already have some ideas about where the best places to buy a ski property are. When it comes to buying a ski property with access to good, high-altitude, snow-sure slopes, there are more than a few purpose-built ski paradises you can choose from. If you’re after pretty towns and pleasant summers, well then a resort such as Samoëns is more popular in summer than it is in winter!

If you want both the scenic summers and high-altitude skiing, some resorts stand up above the rest. When it comes to the best places to buy a ski property, these resorts offer just that little bit extra.

So, take a look at our top picks for snow-sure skiing and summer fun!

Verbier, Switzerland

Part of the famous Four Valleys ski area, Verbier has a huge ski area that covers some of the best high-altitude slopes in the world. It’s a pretty Swiss town, with a lively centre and a selection of beautiful chalets and apartments for sale. In summer, Verbier is home to motor racing, mountain-biking events and more. When it comes to the best places to buy a ski property, there’s not many better than this.

As Verbier is primarily known for its’ winter season, but the resort offers just as much in summer. From hiking trails that feel a million miles from civilisation to steep mountain biking routes, abandoned mine tours, and plenty of long mountain lunches, Verbier is beautiful in summer.

The town itself might not be home to quite the same après ski scene as it is in winter, but it’s still lively and buzzing. The high street teems with life, and the spas and high-line courses offer endless fun in easy reach of the centre. If you’ve got the budget for it, it’s not hard to see why Verbier is one of the best places to buy a ski property.

Morzine, France

Morzine is well known as a popular mountain biking destination in summer. In terms of high-altitude skiing, the Morzine – Les Gets ski area is a little lower than some, but it shares the rest of its’ slopes with high-altitude Avoriaz. That gives it access to some superb snow parks and a wide range of slopes that stretch into Switzerland via the infamous Swiss Wall.

In summer, Morzine is home to excellent mountain biking, extensive hikes, and the town is close to a host of other interesting Alpine destinations like Samoëns. Morzine is larger than many ski resorts, which works in its’ favour in summer. If you’re looking for the best place to buy a ski property that you can use at any time, Morzine is one of the few places in the French Alps you can live year-round.

The Morzine – Les Gets area is where you’ll find the most family-friendly spaces, but children will have plenty to occupy themselves with no matter what you choose to do.

Crans-Montana, Switzerland

With glacier skiing at its’ topmost, Crans-Montana has high slopes, good off-piste skiing, and sun-drenched slopes that you’ll enjoy even in January. In terms of winter attraction, that’s more than enough to make it one of the better resorts in Switzerland. What makes it one of the best places to buy a ski property, though, is the strong summer season.

The golfers among you might already know that Crans-Montana is home to one of the best courses in the Alps. That’s far from all there is to this Swiss Alpine town though; a landscape of vineyards, lakes, forest, and pretty Alpine villages is at its’ prettiest in summer. There are miles of road cycling routes, as well as mountain biking, hiking, and climbing.

Crans-Montana also has a lakeside beachfront, where you can enjoy water sports like wakeboarding, banana boating, and water-skiing. As with many Swiss Mountain towns, an effort has been made to ensure this is one of the best places to spend summer and winter alike.

Best Places to Buy a Ski Property: Chamonix

Courchevel, France

Whilst some of Courchevel’s villages might not be best suited to summer seasons, lower altitude villages like Village and Le Praz are great in summer. These resorts sit happily below the tree line, where the wildlife is most abundant, but still have access to the world-famous skiing of the Three Valleys.

All Courchevel’s villages are well linked to ensure easy access to the main Three Valleys ski area, so you can hop on a fast gondola in Le Praz and be skiing in no time. During summers, Le Praz is home to a wake park, where you can get a handle on wakeboarding. There are also hiking paths, horse riding centres, mountain biking routes, and live music events.

By far the biggest draw when it comes to summers in Courchevel, though, is the climbing. If that’s your bag, Courchevel is easily one of the best places to buy a ski property. The resort is home to canyons, ridge crossings, and more. With good instruction available, this is also a great place to get to grips with the sport as a learner.

Chamonix, France

Sitting on the border between France, Switzerland, and Italy, Chamonix is the home of Mont Blanc. It’s a hugely popular tourist destination nine months of the year, with very little downtime, and a large local population. The resort sees tourists from all over the world who want to get up close and personal with Europe’s biggest mountain.

Home of the longest lift-served off-piste in the world, Chamonix is a winter sports paradise. Its’ ski areas are varied, and all offer great off-piste spots. Winters alone put the resort on many people’s list of best places to buy a ski property. That’s before you even get to the summers!

As Chamonix’s town sits at a lower altitude, it’s very green and pleasant in summers. The QC Terme Spa offers luxury with a mountain view, while up at Le Tour there are wide open trails that will make you feel like you’re living in the “Sound of Music”. There are a wide variety of mountain biking trails, as well as high altitude lakes, a goat sanctuary, and the Mer de Glace.
