The Best French Après-ski Resorts with Luxury

Posted on 17 March 2020

The subtle blend of French Après-ski resorts with luxury present a social scene found nowhere else in the world. While Après-ski is a definite criterion for any ski resort, the added touch of luxury turns this afternoon pleasure pursuit into a defining winter event, with memories to be made. Whether we are talking cocktails, spirits, appetisers or fine dining, the ambience also goes a long way to making it a luxurious ski holiday. Many French resorts do après-ski with style and finesse, so if that is what you seek, where should you go?

Luxury French Après-ski Resorts

1: Do Courchevel 1850 in Style

For après-ski with luxury, Courchevel will always come out on top. This is no surprise given that celebrities and royalty are familiar faces in this ski area, hence what clientele want, they get. Open until the early hours of the morning, bars, and nightclubs at Courchevel do a fantastic job of delivering music, drink, and food all under one roof. Often classed as trendy establishments, skiers and snowboarders think nothing about dropping wads of cash, for a memorable afternoon. Skiers often say Ku De Ta is the best spot. Featuring live bands and hot punches, it is the first place most people try. Other hotspots include Les Caves, Funky fox, Rocky’s bar, and Le Tremplin.

2: Après-ski in Megeve

The French Après-ski scene in Megeve isn’t about flashing the cash. It is about authenticity, with a touch of finesse. Think quality and high standards to know what to expect. For a low-key experience, the Georges bar at Mont Blanc hotel, is quiet and refined, while the Brasserie central carries on the authentic theme with a range of regional, local dishes. If you want to step up the pace a notch, Megeve has a good jazz bar scene, but our favourite place to hang out is the bar at the Four seasons hotel. Two Michelin stars prove its worthiness for some of the finest food in the area, and après-ski is without a doubt, one of their specialities.

3: French Luxury in Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère has been making a name for itself in the best ski areas. However, its après-ski scene has always stood out as being one of the best in the French Alps. There is nothing small scale about Après-ski in Val d’Isère and proof is seen in the high altitude La Folie Douce, full of extravagant performances by DJs and dancers. Likewise, letting your hair down and dancing on the tables is the order of the day at Cocorico, while despite the name, Dicks tea bar is known as one of the best nightclubs taking you through to the early hours of the morning.

4: Pubs and Nightclubs in Meribel

A core theme running through Meribel is the British bars, and pubs, open till the early hours. Live bands are a feature in many of them, and they keep skiers and snowboarders coming back repeatedly. Le Rond Point sitting on the main piste and bus route is always lively, and features live music from 5 p.m. La Folie Douce also has its sister branch in Meribel, making the perfect venue for those who like a fast-paced luxurious lifestyle. Otherwise, head to Jack’s near the central lift station, who also hold themed nights and showcase sports on the large screens.

5: Chamonix

Last on our list of the best French Après-ski resorts with luxury, Après-ski in Chamonix isn’t about clubbing but more bars and lively venues. Whether you are with friends or family, it has a decent party atmosphere, and many bars provide the perfect luxury setting for relaxation after a day on the slopes. Many skiers count Chambre Neuf as the best venue. Sitting opposite the rain station, it opens every day from noon till late, and customers can also look forward to some excellent live bands. Also, opposite the train station, Elevation 1904 serves excellent food, in a stylish setting, while MBC earns admiration for its bar nibbles and a wide range of beers. Think a luxury ski-in ski-out chalet and vibrant après-ski for the best in the French Alps.
