Wimbledon champ scores more than a mini-break with Swiss home!

Posted on 26 June 2013

Tennis champ Roger Federer will be firmly in the global spotlight over the next week, as he competes to retain his Wimbledon title and win the sport’s most prestigious tournament for a record eighth time.

There’s no doubt Swiss born Federer has an eye for those fluffy yellow balls but it appears he also has an eye for stunning property – did you know that his collection of boutique homes include a large ski property in the eastern Swiss canton of Graubünden. The property, which he had built, is in the charming resort of Valbella, near the town of Chur, and comprises two linked luxury chalets. Set on an 8,000-square-metre plot, the Federers are said to have stunning views not only of the mountains but also of the pretty lake at Lenzerheide.

Anyone inspired by Federer who fancies investing in a ski home in this desirable part of Switzerland should consider an apartment at the five-star Mountain Resort & Spa in the centre of Waldhaus Flims, also in Graubünden and a short hop across the valley from Valbella. The new Flims resort ticks every box in terms of luxury facilities needed for an idyllic ski holiday, and bearing in mind that in Switzerland foreign ownership of property is controlled by quotas, if you’re tempted, don’t risk waiting.

Flims is a popular winter resort offering all types of winter sports, including snowboarding, cross country and downhill skiing and sledding, but increasingly it’s becoming known for its summer activities, including hiking, rock climbing, paragliding, mountain biking and swimming in Caumasee, a beautiful spring-fed lake. The nearby Rhine gorge is also a popular place for rafting and canoeing.
