Owners of ski homes in the French resort of Châtel have the opportunity to be on the slopes sooner than they planned this season, thanks to the resort opening some of its ski areas last weekend, with more planned to be open this weekend (December 7/8).
The official opening of Châtel is December 14, while the whole Portes du Soleil domain, of which Châtel is a part, opens on December 21st.
To encourage skiers to come early, Châtel has reduced the cost of its one-day and two-day ski passes and invited ladies to ski for free if they are accompanied by another skier. Homeowners in Châtel an visitors are advised to keep their eyes open for further promotions!
Châtel is a traditional ski resort near the Swiss border and just an hour from Sion airport and 90 minutes from Geneva airport, so with offers short transfers.
In terms of skiing, Châtel has fantastic links to the higher, but less pretty Avoriaz and to the uncrowded slopes on the Swiss side.
Here’s what some property-owners in Châtel said about the resort on a travel website: “Châtel itself is quite a pretty, friendly Savoyarde village, with a good selection of restaurants – do pre-book for evening meals. There are two ‘Britbars’, namely Le Tunnel Bar and L’Avalanche, otherwise apres-ski for hardened partygoers is a little limited. One exception is the Lion Bar opposite the main square – Dutch run and almost entirely populated by ‘cloggies’, its enormous fun from 4pm to 7pm, even if you don’t understand the singing!”
