What is Verbier famous for?

Verbier is famous for being one of the biggest ski resorts in the world, with a giant skiable domain of over 1500m. With pistes across 4 sectors (Les Savoleyres, Bruson, Medran, and Mont Fort) will ensure you won’t miss any powder during your visit. Verbier is famous for its off-piste and freeride terrain, especially in the Trois Vallées region. The three valleys of the Mont-Fort, Siviez and Corgémont offer around 300 kilometres of off-piste trails and over 100 marked runs. They also boast funicular railways, lifts (including 3 gondolas), over 1,800 metres of vertical descent on numerous pistes and snowparks. 2,059m Mont Fort is a popular destination for backcountry skiers, and when the mountain is too far away, you can always head down to St-Nicolas for sun, shopping and great food!

Is off piste skiing dangerous?

Although many skiers never venture away from the groomed runs and trails, the off piste slopes present an assortment of challenges and risks to those who do choose to take them on. It is important to remember that even advanced skiers can have accidents in off piste areas, so it takes a certain level of skill to tackle these more challenging mountains.

Where can you find the best pistes in Verbier?

The Medran sector is an excellent choice with over 125 km of pistes and lots of great off-piste terrain. You’ll find the best snow in Bellecôte bowls, on the glaciers or in the many trees. The network of 50 km lifts includes a funicular (the Mont Fort) and cable cars which provide access to all areas. Mont Fort is another great ski area in the Val d’Anniviers, and has a variety of pistes for every ability. The region’s highest skiing is found at the Couloirs du Tortin, which are two steep runs leading back to Mont Fort at an altitude of 3,330 metres. The slopes are suited to beginners and experts alike. While Verbier is renowned for its off-piste, but it has also got some great blue and red runs for beginners. For your first days skiing make sure you stick to the north face of Fort, Les Fourgs and La Blanche, as these are probably the least busy slopes.

Is Verbier good for beginners?

As an essential part of your ski holiday, a ski pass is required to use the lifts. The pass includes the lift ticket and necessary insurance for visitors under 25 years old. Season ski passes start from CHF 1257* for adults and up to CHF 1223* for seniors. While the cheapest are the standard value, the most expensive allow you to go along with small groups. The resort recommends that you buy the ski pass in advance and online. *Prices are approximate and can vary according to booking date, season and lift type.

Which areas have the best ski-access properties in Verbier?

The area north of the ski station (Pré du Suchet) is considered the best area for ski-access properties, a beautiful spot with just a short free shuttle ride into the lifts. Southern slopes are less steep and easier to access via car, but more expensive as prices rise in proximity to the skiing stations in Verbier.
