History of the Alps

The Alps have known all. They have witnessed history unfold. Many people and events can be traced back to this natural range – from the Romans’ invasion of Gaul to the birth of mountaineering, and the breaking down of political borders.

Home to vast mountains full of immense glaciers, they are a majestic feature on any map and have become the symbol for alpinism. The Alps spans an area greater than the territory of any European country except Russia. History, culture and nature are intertwined here as nowhere else on Earth and this great landscape owes its present appearance to the tremendous forces that over thousands of years have shaped the land.

Mountain Ranges in Les Gets

Le Ranfoilly Summit

Tucked discreetly beneath La Mongie’s Le Roc Blanc, Le Ranfoilly is one of the Portes du Soleil region’s ‘hidden treasures’. Offering majestic views of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre far below, this is a mountain whose high-altitude terrain somehow defies the test of time.

Hugely popular with families, Le Ranfoilly is relatively easy to reach and offers a gentle but exhilarating descent, especially for families skiing for the first time. There’s also plenty of snow on the pistes around the resort’s upper slopes.

Mont Chery Summit

Set your sights upon Mont Chery, a pedestrian-only, gondola lift up through the mountainside to enjoy breathtaking views of the Mont-Blanc Massif and peaks of the prestigious Chablais region. Perfect for those wanting an easy stroll to see multiple alpine peaks.

With its slopes on three sides, this mountain allows for different routes in all seasons. The approach trail to the west face provides easy access to this inviting peak.

La Rosta Summit

The La Rosta peak rises above the Adamello Brenta National Park, and from its summit, you can enjoy a superb view of the surrounding Dolomite Mountains including Ghiacciaio Dello Smereone. The ideal starting point for relaxing mountain walks and rides.

On clear days you can gaze in wonder at the Dolomites or the Brenta Massif. The mountain is equally well equipped for tourists and for the care of children: the paths are easy to climb, especially at the beginning, the inns are comfortable, and there are children’s games too.

Morzine Village

A haven in a mountain setting, surrounded by wonderful fresh air, clean water and verdant greenery. Morzine-Avoriaz is a truly charming mountain resort in the heart of an immense natural setting – Lake Geneva, Mont Blanc Massif and the Swiss border are all visible from here!
