Megeve is a French ski resort and village situated near Mont Blanc in the Haute-Savoie department. What is Megeve famous for?

Megeve is the original destination of the first ever Winter Olympics! It was founded in 1612 by a group of aristocrats following the discovery of Megeve’s natural snow, and is now part of Les 3 Vallées, one of the largest ski areas in the world. Megeve is famous for snow-sure slopes, a village atmosphere and red-roofed chalets. The appeal of Megeve is hard to pin down but we believe it’s due to its reputation for offering an excellent skiing experience with plenty of opportunities for apré-ski entertainment. It’s also home to over 80 km of slopes, a black run wilderness with great tree runs, huge bowls and off-piste terrain. It has been rated as one of the world’s leading winter destinations – not least because its pretty much guaranteed light snowfall throughout the entire season.

Where can you find the best pistes in Megeve?

La Cabouche is the best place in Megeve for kids to ski. Kids love La Cabouche because of its warm welcoming atmosphere, excellent and fun ski school and nursery slopes where instructors will take them by the hand.

The well-known piste Cote 2000, which offers beautiful views over Mont Blanc, is served by La Cabouche’s two high-altitude chair lifts and can be reached from either side via the red or blue runs. The Cote 2000 is course perfect for skiers and snowboarders.

Mont d`Arbois in Megeve is considered to be one of the best pistes in Megeve for freestyling. Mont d’Arbois offers miles of freestylin’ and jibbing spots. What’s so special about Mont d’Arbois is that it combines touring, off-piste and freestyle skiing all in one place. However, Emile Allais is the mountain that every skilled skier in Megeve wants to ski down. It is only open between Christmas and Easter and it’s a trail so steep, you have to wear a helmet while you are on it.

Is Megeve good for beginners?

Megeve is a great place for beginners. The terrain has gentle slopes and there are a number of quiet, wooded trails ideal for learning how to control your speed. There’s a great selection of blue, red and black runs to keep everyone occupied while the off-piste areas are fabulous.

Which areas have the best ski-access properties in Megeve?

Megeve has a host of award winning properties with properties ranging from 2-5 Star chalets. The Chalet des Megeves is an excellent accommodation choice. Not only does this chalet boast a magnificent mountain backdrop and offer luxurious accommodations, it’s also in the centre of downtown Megeve making it convenient for access to all that the town has to offer. The Regina in the centre of town is another great choice. This wonderful chalet is just 50 yards from the ski lift and conveniently located near the restaurants, bars, boutiques and spas of downtown Megeve.

Is Megeve expensive?

Megeve is not a cheap place, neither for residents nor tourists. Although it is possible to ski here on a tiny budget, as the off-piste terrain is free and the slopes are covered with spectacular snow, most of the skiing options here are expensive. In addition to “normal” ski runs, there are three high-altitude resorts (Megeve le Brévent, Megeve la Plagne, and Megeve Bellecôte) that require taking lifts in order to enter their areas.

The ski resort of Megeve, France is the perfect winter escape location for your winter vacation. Based in the Tarentaise Valley just 30 minutes drive from Geneva Airport, the skiing season starts from late December to mid April.
